I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK
Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity and we're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.
I’m diving into Swim15 this August and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.
Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.
My updates
Swim 9 - Gala Water at Bow Bridge
Thursday 22nd Aug Another upstream of the town swim... this time in the Gala Water... which we'd eyed up on a recent train journey on the Borders rail line. A quiet but deep spot under the Bow Bridge. ShareSwim 8 - should have been Stantling Craig
Thursday 22nd Aug I swan in this Scottish Water 140year old reservoir last summer, and had read about an impending decommissioning... but was still sad when we arrived to swim and found a significant amount of water having been drained and works still ingoing. We'll add another swim on another day. ShareSwim 7 - Manor Valley
Thursday 22nd Aug After a bit of an upset tummy a couple of years ago after swimming in the Tweed, I've always been a bit nervous of doing it again. But the Manor Bridge is upstream of all the main Border towns on the river, and a spot where the water was clear but cool & refreshing. Son no 2 even joined us to paddle his feet! ShareSwim 6 - Cauldshiels
Thursday 22nd Aug With so much rain our plans for a wild swim at the "meetings" of the Yarrow & Ettrick were put in hold as the river levels were a tad too high & very fast flowing... instead once we sneeked past a solitary fisherman, we enjoyed the calm of a still night... as dusk creeps ever earlier. ShareSwim 5 - Boon
Thursday 22nd Aug Leaving son no 1 in Earlston for football training, we took a drive upstream to Boon, where there's a recognised wild swim spot. A lovely deep pool on a warm evening of the penultimate day of the school holidays, with a barnacle goose for company. ShareSwim 4 - Canty Bay Beach
Thursday 22nd Aug Fresh from a weekend of Scout camp at Canty Bay, Angus & I were joined by the very lovely Grieve family for a surprisingly warm swim in the North Sea, we even managed to scare the life out of ourselves when a crab scuttled across the sea bed, those things can't half move fast sideways!! ShareSwim 3 - Lindean
Thursday 22nd Aug So behind in posting these... but swim 3 for Angus & I was a dip at Lindean, later in the evening, with the place to ourselves ShareSwim 2 - Stichill Linn
Sunday 4th Aug A gentle 20min walk though the woods to Stichill Linn, where Angus & I enjoyed a bracing but refreshing swim by the Waterfall. ShareSwim 1 - Portobello Beach
Thursday 1st Aug What super night and a great spot for our 1st swim of Swim 15 2024. 15 different locations, 15 wild swims, but this year I've got a swim buddy... Angus had joined me for the adventure, and to raise awareness and funds for Bowel Cancer UK. ShareThank you to my Sponsors
