Swim15

I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity and we're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.

I’m diving into Swim15 this August and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.

Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

I am aiming to swim 500 laps (25m per lap) in the first half of August, more if I can. I've not been swimming properly for a Looong time

My updates

An extra 15 laps for good measure!

Saturday 17th Aug
Happened to mention to Sam, if I swam an Extra 15 laps apparently (according to my sister) I will have swam 8 miles!

We went for a fun session at the pool, Sam made me swim the addition 15, timing me, swimming with me and genuinely be bossy! 🤣😍🐠🏊

FIVE HUNDRED - WOO HOO!

Thursday 15th Aug
33 - 34 = 500 Laps COMPLETED!

This last lot seemed to take forever 🤣
Darting around families and at one point with my 13 yo having me drag him along as well 🤣

Massive thanks to all that have sponsored me and to all the encouragement given!

And just for that last bit of cheek - if you haven't yet sponsored and would like to there's still time 😜

The link will still be available until the end of the month, I just needed to finish my laps by the 15th 😘

Family swim session - 36laps

Tuesday 13th Aug
69 - 36 = 33 laps to go

Lots of weaving in and out and avoiding being jumped on 🤣

Sam managed 17! Fantastic mate x

And I now have no watch as I smashed the screen earlier when I fell. 🤬

Swim 8 - 44 laps

Saturday 10th Aug
159 - 44 = 115 laps to go

Wasn't going to go at all today so good to knock a few more off

56! Fifty six!! FIFTY SIX!!!

Friday 9th Aug
Swim 8 - 56 laps in one hour!

215 - 56 = 159 laps to go!

I'm in shock I managed that many laps in the hour.

Good job I had my watch and I was counting, most, otherwise I'd be thinking there was a glitch.

Swim 7 - Naked!

Thursday 8th Aug
262 - 47 = 215 laps to go!

No I don't mean skinny dipping or more likely chunky dunking - I mean without my watch 😱
It is an absolute impossibility for me to swim and count laps at the same time!

I have a strong feeling I managed 50 laps BUT as I've not recorded that and in my previous one hour sessions I've done 46 and 48 I've decided to put 47 down. In the middle as I don't want to put too many down as it feels wrong for those who have kindly sponsored me.
I feel I managed additional laps today as I had a lane to myself for more than half the session and I did a fair few laps back stoke - I am quicker on my back.

Hopefully I will remember my watch tomorrow 🤞

Swim 6 - 26laps - short session

Tuesday 6th Aug
288 - 26 = 262 laps to go

Shorter session, as I was having so much fun gardening, I left late, then they threw me out earlier than I expected.

Shorter session is better than no session though, and I did push myself harder to try and make up the last time at the beginning. So quite happy with that.

Swim 5 - 45 laps

Sunday 4th Aug
333 - 45 = 288 laps to go

Left my watch to do the counting, not sure how I did 45, as I swam in even numbers (one up and one back down each time)

Ah well, I'm sure it's only one out and I will make that up at some point OR it didn't count my last lap as I stopped watch straight after 🤷

Swim 4 - 48 laps

Friday 2nd Aug
381 - 48 = 333 laps to go!

Water up my nose, bit of cramp, people splashing and a couple of funny elderly ladies.

Tired after this one 😊

2nd August 2024

Swim 3 - 42 laps

Friday 2nd Aug
423 - 42 = 381 laps to go

Feeling it a bit more today, 2nd day in a row and did a few back stoke, which I'm slightly quicker but feel like I need a full face mask.
And my swim tee kept riding up 🙄

31st July 2024

Swim 2 - 42 laps

Friday 2nd Aug
465 - 42 = 423 laps to go

Much better with my watch counting, can keep track now and won't have to could at all.
Just have to remember if I do a lap on my back to give my arms a rest, it's not counted on my watch.

30th July 2024

Swim 1 - 35 laps done

Friday 2nd Aug
500 - 35 = 465 laps to go!

Quite pleased with 35 laps, to say I've not been swimming (doing continuous laps) for so so long.

The hardest thing, was keeping count 🤣 I think I actually did more than that 😆
Need to find my watch.
