Swim15

I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity and we're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.

I’m diving into Swim15 this August and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.

Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

My updates

Sunday 1st Sep
I am proud to say that on Thursday, I finally completed my 15km swim !! I want to say a massive thank you to everyone that has supported and donated. It has really made a massive impact. Every penny raised is helping people with Bowel Cancer, and will help those who are diagnosed in the future. For those who haven’t yet had the chance to donate, the fundraising page is open until the end of September. I know that seems far away but it will come round so quickly!! I want to say a special thank you to Niamh and her amazing family for letting me do this in memory of Kelle; I hope I made you guys proud. Also thank you to my amazing mum, Sharon, who came swimming with me. Charlie for sitting and taking photos of me. And finally my amazing colleagues who agreed to take photos with me, and put up with all the goggle drama !! I hope you all have an amazing rest of your day.

Wednesday 28th Aug
42 laps down, meaning I only have 50 laps left !! Tomorrow will be my last day swimming for charity, so please make that extra effort to share and encourage others to donate. Thank you everyone who has donated so far, and who has supported me. This has been an amazing experience and I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by people who have cheered me on the whole way. This is such an amazing charity, one that is very close to many of us. This money is going towards researching earlier diagnostics, so people have the best chance of beating bowel cancer. This whole experience, in memory of Kelle, has really opened my eyes to the reality of bowel cancer. Every 15 minutes, someone gets diagnosed, and following other pages, and reading people’s stories have made me more aware and I want to encourage others to get checked. Better safe than sorry !! I hope you all have a good evening and thank you for everything so far. See you tomorrow !!

Sunday 25th Aug
Just a short update today.

I was supposed to go swimming shortly after work today. I finished at 2 and swimming started at 4:30. I, however, fell asleep after work. This meant I only managed to get in the pool at around 5:05 (it closed at 5:30).

I was very determined to get as many laps in, as well as make it a better number (I don’t like it being 409). I did 31 laps roughly 25 minutes !! This takes my total up to 440, with 160 laps to go. All I really need is 2 good sessions and I’m done !!

For my final day (I haven’t picked yet) I’m going to try and get a last push at donations, and I would appreciate everyone sharing the page and encouraging others to donate !!

23/08/24-24/08/24

Saturday 24th Aug
Just a quick update for everyone.

23/08/24:
Yesterday, I completed 30 laps, which brought my total up to 365. It was only a very short session yesterday.

24/08/24:
Today, my mum came with me to do a few laps. I ended up doing 44 laps, bringing my total to 409. I didn’t have my watch, so I had to wait until after my session to see how many I had accomplished. I don’t like the number not being divisible by 5 or 10, so I’ll fix it tomorrow !! I have 191 laps left to go, and 7 days to complete it (which I’m not worried about, but Charlie is !!).

It was only a small update today but please make sure to continue sharing the page, and encouraging others to donate. Every penny makes a massive difference!!

Wednesday 21st Aug
I AM OVER HALFWAY !!

Last night, I completed 45 more lengths of the pool, bringing my total up to 335.

It was a very dramatic session last night!! (Thank you mum for sitting and taking photos). My goggles decided to snap in the middle of the pool, which gave me a bit of a shock. After going back and forth between kids goggles and spares, my colleagues managed to find a pair to finish off my swim !!

I was hoping to get a lot more laps done last night, but the goggles drama slowed me down an awful lot. But any progress is still progress !!

Please keep sharing the page, and encouraging others to donate. I know we’ve hit our target but every bit over just makes it all the more better.

As always, thank you for the continued support because it means the world to me. I hope you all have a good evening, and thank you for taking the time to read, especially if you got this far !! 🫶

Monday 19th Aug
Yesterday, I completed 45 laps. This wasn’t as many as I was aiming for (55), but it’s progress nonetheless. I am 10 away from 300 laps, which is halfway !!

I received an email that I featured on the ‘wall of fame’ for reaching over £250 worth of donations. Check it out in the link below !!

All the support and donations have been amazing and I really appreciate it all. Please continue to donate and share, as every little bit counts !!

Friday 16th Aug
So… I hit my £500 target !! I want to say thank you to everyone that has donated this far. I promise no donation has gone unnoticed. Please keep on donating, as every bit over target is an amazing bonus !! I swam 80 laps today, which is a big achievement for me. I’m now at 245 laps total out of 600. Am I shattered ? Yes. Was it worth it? 100% !! My stamina has increased whilst doing this challenge; more than I thought it would. Taking the time out of my day to go swimming has also been really good for me mentally. Please keep sharing and donating, as the support and love is really valued. I hope you all have a good evening. I’m going to bed now!!

12/08/24

Tuesday 13th Aug
I was supposed to post this yesterday, but I got home and crashed; it was a busy day !! Last night I did another 45 laps, bringing the total up to 165/600. We are over 1/4 of the way !! I’m hoping to push a bit more this week, and complete more laps more frequently. All of the support so far has really helped !! I also recieved a card and gift in the post, for passing £100 in donations. I’m so grateful to everyone that has donated this far, as every penny counts. We are so close to our target, so please donate and share if you haven’t already !!

05/08/24

Monday 5th Aug
45 laps of the pool this evening, bringing our total to 120 laps. 3km complete so far, 12 left to go. I really appreciate all of the support from my friends and family. It has been very helpful, especially when I’ve been overly tired, they’ve kept me motivated. Knowing what I’m doing this for also keeps me motivated. It is such a good cause, and one that is close to me. Please keep sharing and donating. We are so close to the target !!

04/08/24

Sunday 4th Aug
Another 45 laps done this morning before work. 525 left to go !!

Please keep sharing and donating. We are so so close to the target !!

And so it has begun…

Thursday 1st Aug
Today I started my 15km swim (600 lengths). 30 down, 570 to go !! It will only allow me to post 1 photo at a time, but there are many more yet to come. I will be posting more regular updates here, so make sure to keep an eye out. Weekly updates will be posted on Facebook. Please continue to donate and share, as the support makes a massive difference.

15km for Kelle

Wednesday 24th Jul

This August, I’m swimming 15km to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK. Every 15 minutes, someone is diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. This includes my best friends mum Kelle, who sadly lost her battle earlier this month. She was immensely strong and always the life and soul of the party. She loved unicorns and pink, so I will be wearing as much pink as I can in the pool !

Bowel Cancer is the second biggest cancer killer, and therefore more funding and research needs to go towards diagnosing at an early stage, to save lives.

Even a small amount makes a big difference !
