We are fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK

Lucy and I are taking part in ActiveApril for Bowel Cancer UK and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.

Bowel cancer is under publicised but is no less threatening. Bowel cancer can go misdiagnosed until it can be too late. In my mums case, they were quick to blame Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Indigestion. Mum also passed her national screening prior to her diagnosis and at the time, she did have cancer undetected.

The money we raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.

Please support us and donate even just a little today.

Henry is so excited that he is planning on setting Lucy and I some crazy activities and putting us through our paces. God help us 😬🤣🤸‍♂️🤸‍♀️

Why I am supporting Bowel Cancer

Wednesday 12th Mar
So in a moment of madness I texted my oldest friend Lucy and suggested we take part in ActiveApril. I should have known she would say yes 😂.

My mum was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer July 8th 2018 after a year of going to and from the Doctors. I had just returned to work from maternity leave and mum was starting to have Henry.

I still remember standing in the kitchen when mum first told me that she had cancer. Everything seemed to stop and I just burst into tears. Mum shortly after had bowel surgery followed by chemotherapy. Mum took every day in her stride (with some complaint 🤣) and was insistent of writing down every medical term that she heard.

Shortly after my mum's diagnosis, the UK went into Covid lockdown and mum had to isolate. We would walk down to her house and drop off shopping or other items. It was an incredibly hard time for everyone.

I took mum for her operation and then went to the hospital when she was on the ward. I have some brilliant photos of mum rather out of it on pain meds thinking a straw was a cigarette. I may share them depending on what we raise.

Mum underwent 8 rounds of chemotherapy and received the all clear in August 2019.

We never thought mum would get bowel cancer. If anyone knows my mum, lung cancer was a possibility 😬🚬🚭.

We are all so thankful mum is still here (even though her taste in clothes has made me walk 3 steps behind 😂) and she has been able to see Henry grow and has been cancer free ever since.
