I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK

someone gets diagnosed with bowel cancer every 15 minutes. Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

As you know, this disease has affected my little family too. So this summer, I'm pledging to swim 15 k in 15 different places to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK. Their resources and testimonials were so helpful to me when I’d otherwise been feeling very helpless about how to support my husband when he was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021. I also really love a swim!

I’m diving into Swim15 this summer and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.

Monday 26th Aug

And that’s wrap for me for Swim15- 600 lengths swum and over £1000 raised! It’s been a brilliant way to spend time and I’m incredibly grateful to all my co swimmers and sponsors. Good luck to everyone still swimming!

Friday 23rd Aug

Wah!! The fundraising is much more than I could have ever hoped for, thank you thank you!! Since I last updated I’ve done another two lido trips (Sandford Parks and back to Portishead) a quarry swim and back to an indoor pool. I’m actually on the cusp of my last swim- just 15 lengths to go now. This seemed totally unattainable a month ago, so hurray and thank you for your support!

Saturday 17th Aug

To say you guys have blown my fundraising target out of the water would be an understatement- thank you SO much! I’m currently in the midst of 5 days of swims on the trot- I’ve done Clevedon Marine Lake and Bristol South so far, with Sandford Parks Lido, a return trip to Portishead and a quarry to come… it’s looking like I’ll have hit the 15k by next weekend at this rate. The splashes of support keep coming! 🙏

I managed 5 swims during a week in France and very enjoyable they were too- from heated lido, to indoor pools and gorgeous sea swim and sea pool.

I’m now halfway through the 15k so still have a lot of swimming left to do; I’m going to be repeating some locations in and around Bristol as I’ve done 12 swims already!

Every splash helps fight bowel cancer, so even when it’s tough, it’s worth it 🩵
