Swim15

I'm taking part in Swim15 & fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK

This time last year I was at the pool & met a truly inspiring young lady who was doing the Swim15 challenge to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of her Grandfather.

Her story resonated with me as I was giving swimming a go as not only a way to increase exercise into my somewhat sedentary working week, but I was also at a stage of being able to increase exercise as I recovered from my own surgery to remove a tumour from my colon.

At the time I could only swim a few lengths before needing to stop but made a pledge that I'd revisit this challenge this year. Bowel Cancer UK was one of the first websites I visited for facts when I got my diagnosis & I also joined the online community for support.

Why 15?

Every 15 minutes someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer.

I'm challenging myself to swim 15km during the month of August.

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity and we're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.

I’m diving into Swim15 this August and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.

Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

Please support me on my challenge to raise money for this amazing charity!

3rd km done ✔️

Saturday 3rd Aug
Really difficult swim today. I hoped to get a few extra lengths in the bank but the lanes were narrow due to the pool being halved to accommodate a family swim. The lanes were also over subscribed because people were using them from the family swim. I have to touch the wall at the end of each lap or my watch doesn’t register the lap. People resting & chatting at the end of the pool isn’t an issue when the lanes are wider. I tried the medium lane at one point but was aware that I wasn’t booked into it & mindful that my length time doesn’t reach the criteria to be in that lane & was probably holding other swimmers up. All said & done I powered on with my tunes blasting through my headphones, did a km & got out. 🏊🏼‍♀️

Another km done

Friday 2nd Aug
Midday swim today & another 1 km done towards my goal of 15.
Couldn't do it without a playlist. Today DJ James Hype helped me pass the time.....

1 km done ✔️

Thursday 1st Aug
42 lengths & 558 to go 🏊🏼‍♀️ 1st time in the pool for months, happy with my start.
