I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK.

I have chosen to complete this challenge for a few reasons. I have spent 24 years of my career working in cancer services, paediatric oncology nurse, MDT coordinator and more recently a change to adult services in cancer information management. Cancer is something that has always been a part of my working life and ultimately my goal is to get fit but also I want to give something back. 

There are two particular people I am doing this for, first and foremost, my wonderful mum. She was diagnosed over three years ago now, she had her surgery but did not tolerate the chemo and after a few months of being desperately ill she made the choice to stop. 3 years on and she has just been discharged from surveillance and all is well. So very proud of everything she has gone through. This is for you mum to celebrate, I love you lots. 

I would also like to do this in memory of Jason’s cousin. She was diagnosed about a year after my mum with exactly the same diagnosis and stage. She went through so much treatment but unfortunately she lost her fight a few weeks ago. She was a beautiful lady who always looked after everyone else, always smiling and always thinking of others when she was going through so much. A true angel

I’m diving into Swim15 this August and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all. 

Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

A bit late to post as getting ready to go on my jollies. 
Really pleased to say that this morning I finished my 15km challenge. Not only have I finished the swim earlier than expected but you have all helped me reach my target which I am so grateful for. 
What better day to complete it on my mums birthday who is the reason I set myself this challenge. She came along and watched me which was the icing on the birthday cake 🎂
There is still time to donate until the end of August so I will keep posting and maybe even do a little extra swimming on holiday xxx

Thursday 22nd Aug
Considering the current exhaustion of trying to get holiday ready I really pushed myself to do my longest and quickest swim yet. 
2000m in 45 minutes, not bad! 
Last 1500 to be completed on Saturday morning before mission get packed for holiday.

Tuesday 20th Aug
Delayed in posting as I did my swim last night, been so busy that I forgot to update! 
Another 1500m done. Only 3500m to go, planning to get all done by Friday so bring it on 🤪🏊

Wednesday 14th Aug
2/3 of the way to goal of 15km. 
Really don’t have the energy tonight but really pushed hard and got another 1500m in the bag. 
Total 10000m done, 5000m to go which is definitely achievable before going away next weekend.

Monday 12th Aug
Really struggled to motivate myself tonight and really struggled with the swim 😔
That said I did do another 1000m so I’ll take that

Saturday 10th Aug
Early start to a busy day ahead. Considering I am not feeling my best I’m rather pleased that I’ve just done another 1500m.

Thursday 8th Aug
Another 1500m done, over a third of the way through for 1 week, pleased with that!

Wednesday 7th Aug
Up early, swim before work this morning, not sure I can do that again 😂
Another 900m complete, starting to feel better in myself too which is a bonus.

Monday 5th Aug
Wasn’t going to go for a swim today but after a very long day in a very hot and stuffy office, last minute decision to go for Swim number 3! 
Chose a different (and bigger) pool tonight for a change of scenery, completed 1500m in 45 mins, quite chuffed with that 😊
