My activity
I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK
I’m taking part in ActiveApril for Bowel Cancer UK and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.
As many of you know, this time last year I was weeks away from an operation that quite literally saved my life. Surgeons removed a 22cm section of my bowel, and with it a stage 2 / 3 tumour. A 'high anterior resection' if you want to get technical.
A year down the line and I'm well on the road to recovery. But I've been exceptionally lucky.
The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.
I’m going to be getting active every day in April. On average I pledge to walk a minimum of 5 miles and cycle a minimum of 4 miles each day. Please support me and donate today.

1st May. It's all over?
Thursday 1st May Steps have been counted. The money is in. I've clearly got some extremely generous friends and colleagues. It's a good feeling. Now onto the next challenge... Share
Day 30.- The last hurrah?
Wednesday 30th Apr Another beautiful one in store, I'm sure. Another mix of town and country. The final push; the big one. Hopefully going out with a bang, not a whimper. Share
Day 29... Town and Country
Tuesday 29th Apr Gosh it was lovely yesterday. To and from the station along the seafront and a good walk at lunchtime in the park. The perfect mix of surf and turf. Albeit without the meat and fish. More of the same today, I reckon. Share
And all too soon it's Monday! Day 28.
Monday 28th Apr A cool start to the morning, but I think we're in for a good one. Again, work is going to get in the way of making the most of the day, but hey. Still can't get over how lovely yesterday was; does this mean we're in for a good summer? Share
A sunny Sunday - Day 27!
Sunday 27th Apr Another beautiful day out there. Marathon day, but no, I won't be running any marathons. Seafront, inland, walking and cycling. Who knows what the day will bring? What I do know is that I'll be making the very best of it! Share
Day 25. Can taste the weekend!
Friday 25th Apr Another good walking day yesterday, with a bit of town and country. Totted up my activities to date, and was really quite pleased at how I've done. It's the last few days of the Challenge, so a final push is in order! Share
Day 24- Cool runnings (walkings)
Thursday 24th Apr A cooler start to the day, and a pleasant walk to the station put 2.5miles in the bag. Would've stayed out longer had I not had a train to catch. Almost perfect walking weather today, I reckon. Pity then, for the most part I'm going to be stuck in the office 🙄 Share
Day 23- A soggy start
Wednesday 23rd Apr The view from the window isn't encouraging - clearly been a damp night. But doesn't seem to be raining at the moment, so keen to get out there while it's dry. Share
Day 22- Off to a good start!
Tuesday 22nd Apr OK. Yesterday was rubbish. But only if you measure it by activity. Yesterday I listened to my body and my body said "give me some rest today". And so I did. And I feel all the better for it. Good start to today... Got a feeling it's gonna be a good one! Share
Day 21- Three weeks in!
Monday 21st Apr Bit weary after yesterday's exploits. No climbing up hills for me today. Staying strictly on the flat! Another cool day out there., could ideally do with a bit of sunshine. Though what can I expect for a Bank Holiday? Share
Something different for day 20
Sunday 20th Apr Happy Easter! Change of scenery this morning as I took myself off to Goodwood and the highest point in West Sussex. Hoped to catch the sunrise, but the clouds had other ideas... But, my goodness, was it cold! Will do it again though! Share
Day 19... 5 miles before breakfast?
Saturday 19th Apr Yes, that's right... Aided by wind power blowing me up the prom, but wanting to find a route back that avoided facing the wind head-on I found myself having done 5 miles by the time I got in the door. At least managed to stay dry... Share
Day 18 - Hoping for a Good Friday
Friday 18th Apr The forecast looked a bit rubbish - looking out of the window suggests it's not bad out there, so maybe get out while I can. Yesterday was good for stepping, but was a bit weary by the end of the day. Maybe today is another one to take it slightly easier..? Share
Thursday, day 17. And it's a beauty...
Thursday 17th Apr Oh what a beautiful morning... As they sing in Oklahoma. Absolutely gorgeous out there. Far too good to be sitting on a train. If only I didn't have to earn a living, I'd quite happily spend the day just wandering. Curse you capitalism! Share
Day 16- A blustery day.
Wednesday 16th Apr Good number of steps completed yesterday, but woken up to what Winnie-the-Pooh might call 'a blustery day'. How will this affect my activity today? I'll tell you tomorrow... Share
Would I choose Tuesday? Day 15
Tuesday 15th Apr Fair number of steps done yesterday, a mix of urban and coastal. A new donation too! Which is nice. So two weeks in, and a bit of number crunching to be done. Or do I wait until tomorrow, when I'm halfway through the Challenge? Decisions, decisions... Share
Croydon bound on day 14
Monday 14th Apr Quite a productive weekend, with a good, but not crazy, number of steps banked and out on the bike too. Looks like we're heading for a bit of a change in the weather.. Hopefully (I'll) be staying dry! Share
Day 13... Well rested and ready for the day!
Sunday 13th Apr I think my less intense day yesterday did me a power of good. Still managed to bag around six miles, but did it on a little and often basis rather than large chunks. Heading out the door, hoping it'll stay dry! Share
Day 12 - Get fresh for the weekend
Saturday 12th Apr So it's Saturday. Decided that it's gonna be a day to recharge. Not necessarily putting the feet up, but perhaps taking things a little easier. Let's see where we get to. Share
Day 11 - It's Fri-Yay!!
Friday 11th Apr And so to Friday after an active week the countdown to the weekend has started. Yesterday was a bit of walking and a bit of cycling... Who knows about today? What I do know is that I need to get off the sofa and out of the door! Share
Day 10- Back on home turf
Thursday 10th Apr A trip to Wanborough near Swindon provided a change of scenery yesterday. Different landscape, different air. Aggravated my hay-fever somewhat. Not huge amounts of activity, but did manage to get a decent number of steps in. Back to the coast today, so let's see what the day brings. Share
Day 9 - a change of scenery.
Wednesday 9th Apr Great day yesterday - A more urban environment than of late. Lots of steps and a fantastic sponsorship response from work colleagues. Makes it all worthwhile. Today will be heading up country to the woolly wilds, but not before I have a quick trot along the seafront. Feeling good 😁 Share
Day 8... Tackling Tuesday
Tuesday 8th Apr Goodness I'm feeling old and achy. Must've overdone it at the weekend. Still, all in a good cause an' all that. Too tired to get out on the bike yesterday, but I did walk 8 miles or so. Let's see what today brings, but plan to take it a little bit easier today. Share
Monday all too soon
Monday 7th Apr A glorious weekend meant time out on the bike and some great walking. Alas it's now the start of the working week again. Bit of a chill outside, but no doubt will warm up a bit. Let's see where the day takes me... Share
And onto day 6
Sunday 6th Apr Some huge walking yesterday, but alas no cycling. Still a bit windy out there 🤔. Got a packed programme of things to do today, so will certainly get some steps in, but definitely starting the day with a cycle ride! Share
Day 5... A little bit breezy!
Saturday 5th Apr A breezy start to the day, which was a bit disappointing as I intended to start the day with a bike ride... No matter, took myself off for a serious walk down the seafront to greet the sunrise. Hopefully the wind'll subside a bit later... I feel a ride along the prom coming on... Share
Onto day 4
Friday 4th Apr Friday, and the weekend beckons. Didn't get out there in the bike yesterday, but my goodness I did some walking(!) Probably similar today, meaning I'll have to hit the bike hard at the weekend. Share
Day 3 already?
Thursday 3rd Apr It's looking to be a beautiful one too! Some good stepping yesterday, and a windy cycle ride (and I'm not talking about me being windy...). Up for another goody today. A walk to the station put nearly 2.5 miles in the bag, and similar on the way back will do the same. Feeling energised! ShareThank you to my Sponsors
