Swim15

I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK. Fighting this cruel disease is very close to my heart and so, seeing this challenge, I felt I might be able to help to support. My hope is that everyone submits their poo tests and check their poo. Please do!

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity and we're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.

I’m diving into Swim15 this August and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.

Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

15 kms done! Hurray .....

Wednesday 21st Aug
Tenth - and final - swim for Bowel Cancer UK's challenge.  Today's visit to the pool was a bit 'slow' and trudgey.  All the same ... the final 1.5 km has been completed.  Having said that ... like Ian Keeffe (whose post I read yesterday) ... I'm going to keep swimming, for this challenge, until the end of the month.  Huge thanks to all sponsors, to the gang on this challenge's Facebook page and all at Bowel Cancer UK for all your amazing work.

A step closer to the finish line ...

Tuesday 20th Aug
Another 1.5 km achieved this morning.  I know I was prevaricating beforehand but enjoyed the swim once I got out to the pool.  Looked as though it was going to be a busy lane ... but I must have frightened folk off with my wonky left leg (!) and I ended up with it to myself for a good portion of the time - always a bonus! I'm hoping to reach the 15 km target in tomorrow's swim - fingers crossed!

Back to the pool ...

Monday 19th Aug
After a few days off, I got back into the Uni pool this morning.  Weekday mornings - after the serious lane swimmers are 'done' - gives a lovely quiet pool for my gentle sploshing up and down.  So, another 1.5 km 'bagged' today ... just 3 more to swim to complete the challenge and I'm hoping to achieve these during this week.  Fingers crossed!

Seventh swim ...

Wednesday 14th Aug
I was feeling a bit sluggish today ... but was inspired by Sue Heywood and Tim Alsford (on this challenge) to give myself a talking to and get down to the pool.  So ... now I'm at 10.5 kms and am hoping to complete in the next week.

Tuesday ... another 1.5 km

Tuesday 13th Aug
Must remember to make Tuesday morning a regular swimming day after this challenge.  When I got into the pool there were only 4 of us in there!  I know it won't be like this after the students return to the campus but, for today, it was brilliant.

Couple more swims ...

Sunday 11th Aug
Yesterday and today's swims went well and I'm now at 7.5 kms.  Today was brilliant ... the sky's blue and the pool was so quiet with me having a lane to myself for the first 50 odd lengths, what a treat!  Might have to do some earlier swims from here on.

Friday ... third swim after a bit of a pause

Friday 9th Aug
Didn't get a session in yesterday ... went off to Blackpool to meet with former colleagues at the Showtown Museum of Fun and Entertainment, instead.  It was great to see people and 'our' visitors looked like they were having a good time (phew!). Today went well, with another 1.5 km 'in the bag'.  Will head back over the weekend to try to catch up with others on this challenge.

Tuesday and a second swim...

Tuesday 6th Aug
Couldn't believe how empty the pool was today.  That was a great bonus!  Another 1.5 kms today.  I'm pretty sure I can get back to the pool most of the days this week ... so I've a chance to catch up with others that are part of this challenge.  Let's see!

My first swim today ...

Monday 5th Aug
I'm a bit late starting this challenge ... been away for a few days.  So, I'll have to get a wiggle on! Enjoyed the Uni pool today ... it was lovely and quiet as the aquafit gang didn't show and university students are around at the moment.  Back to the pool tomorrow.
