My son Wilfie is raising money for Bowel Cancer UK

As you will know, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Bowel Cancer in 2022 and, as a family we have been through a lot. I have had 3 open operations on my bowel and liver, 11 procedures and 20 cycles of chemotherapy so far! Whilst I have been going through all of this, Oli, Eva and Wilfie have also been going through a lot in supporting me.

Earlier this year, Oli raised over £27, 000 and now it's Wilfie's turn! He is aiming to raise £1500 by doing something active every day in April! So far he has planned: playing on the beach in Cornwall with his cousins, Georgia and Max, walking our dog, Scout with his other cousin, Molly and Cricket Camp with his friend, Alex. There will be more to come! We'll keep you updated with Wilfie's achievements.

Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

My updates

Football fun!

Monday 29th Apr
Re-starting the Summer term at Wilfie's regular club- Young Ballerz, run by Coach Dom. Here WIlfie is, with Alec, Gabriel and Felix.

Day 17 Time for Cricket!

Monday 29th Apr
The start of the summer... not-so-much! It's been pretty rainy this holiday but WIlfie managed some time in the nets in our local park.

Day 15-18 Fun in Suffolk

Monday 29th Apr
Time to visit Grandpa and Tina in Suffolk, this means time for a spot of horse riding. Plus football, walking Scout and more badminton!

Day 13- Swimming!

Monday 29th Apr
I thought there would be more of this as Wilfie is a keen swimmer, but only 1 day of it. Heroically supported by Teddy and Albert

Day 29... not long to go!

Monday 29th Apr
Sorry no updates for a while. Two cycles of chemo, plus MRI and CT scans left me pretty tired! However, not for Wilfie! He has been busy sticking to his promise to be active in every day of April. Here are some photos of a few of the activities he completed... he played a lot of football, and badminton, and now that the summer term has started, it's all about cricket!

Day 17

Thursday 18th Apr
A quiet day whilst I had Chemo Cycle 12. Can't believe that's another one down since Wilfie started his challenge at the beginning of April.
Badminton in the garden with Eva... his classic challenge go-to! Shame there's no Badminton at school in the Summer term. However... bring on the Cricket fun!!

Day 15-16 Cricket Camp

Thursday 18th Apr
Wilfie had 2 days, with his friend Alex at Dulwich Cricket Camp... bit of pre-season training

Day 12-13

Thursday 18th Apr
Weekend at home and travelling back from Cornwall... does walking up and down the delayed train count! However, Wilfie still managed a dog walk and some Badminton over the weekend. Again, photos to follow when IT have sorted my email

Day 11- Beach Fun

Thursday 18th Apr
Walk and rugby with Phil and Max- bracing weather in Cornwall. Blow out those cobwebs on Polzeath Beach. Wonderful!
Photos to come as I'm locked out of my email account!

Day 10- Eden Project

Wednesday 10th Apr
Terrible weather again, so we headed to the Eden Project. Had a wonderful time, given the expansive nature of the place, a wheelchair was required for me. Pushing me around ticked off WIlfie's activity for the day!

Day 9- Wadebridge

Wednesday 10th Apr
I felt awful today. Not even the bracing Cornish air could shift my exhaustion... day 5-7 of the chemo cycle are always the worst. I managed a LONG afternoon nap... whilst my bro and SIL took Eva, Wilfie and Max to playground. Weather continues to be AWFUL. Such a shame.

Day 8- Travel to Cornwall

Wednesday 10th Apr
Well, today was difficult for Wilfie to do much activity as he spent over 7 hours on a train to Cornwall to visit Phil, Agata and cousins Georgia and Max.
He did manage 20 mins of indoor basketball. He'll make up for it this week, I'm sure!

Day 7 Peckham Rye

Sunday 7th Apr
Chemo day 5 for me... steroid crash (I have steroids days 1-4 each cycle) leaves me very fatigued. I always find days 6-7 pretty hard. Luckily for me, Vics was around to take the crew to Peckham Rye park so that Wilfie can complete his challenge. Along with Eva, Will and Bea, he played a lot of footie and enjoyed time on the Adventure playground.

Day 6 Football party

Sunday 7th Apr
So this photo is taken post-activity! But I thought it was such a lovely image of Wilfie and his friends, Gus (the birthday boy), Jayden and Alan... with smiling grandparents in the background.

My only other photo is of dirty boots, muddy socks and jumper!

Day 5 Sit bit workout and park action

Friday 5th Apr
Googie brought her sit bit to our house... Wilfie did some squats and caught a ball 100 times while balancing. All of this after a lovely play in Kelsey Park with his friend, Will.

Day 4- Walk and park fun

Thursday 4th Apr
We managed a walk today, and then Wilfie played football with his friend Alec in Mayow Park (no photos from that, I'm afraid!) Excuse my swollen face... courtesy of the steroids!  Hence why the image is in a more flattering back and white :-)

Day 3- Lewisham Lanes

Wednesday 3rd Apr
For me, living with stage 4 cancer means being on chemo long-term... and this doesn't stop for the school holidays. My regimen means being in the chair from 9am-4pm on day 1, and then being sent home with an infusion given over 46 hours. Luckily for me, my sister Ellie took Eva, Wilfie and cousin Molly to Lewisham Lanes for some bowling action. Wilfie won the first game with a 3 half-strikes . Activity ended with a spot of footie in the garden. Day 3 done!

Day 2- back in London!

Tuesday 2nd Apr
Auntie Ellie and Molly arrived today, just in time for football in the garden and another spot of badminton before the rain hit (definitely becoming a firm favourite, thanks to Mr Severino for inspiring him). Wilfie also completed a 40 minute walk to the shops, when normally we would have driven.

Day 1

Monday 1st Apr
The merch has arrived!

Day 1 Fun!

Monday 1st Apr
A beautiful Spring morning in Petworth... What a way to kick off Active April! Wilfie enjoyed a long walk in the woods, followed by a competitive game of badminton in the garden. These activities were shared with his "God Brothers", Arthur and Ned, as well as with Eva.
Thank you to all who have sponsored Wilfie, we are overwhelmed by the response from our friends and family. We arrived back in London today with all the BCUK merch ready for photos.
