I'm fundraising for Bowel Cancer UK

Bowel Cancer UK is the UK's leading bowel cancer charity and we're determined to save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer.

I’m taking part in ActiveApril and raising money to help save lives and improve the quality of life of everyone affected by bowel cancer. The money I raise will help to provide support and information to patients and their families, fund and support research into bowel cancer and support campaigns for early diagnosis and best treatment and care for all.

Bowel cancer is the UK's second biggest cancer killer with more than 16,500 people dying annually of a disease that is preventable, treatable and curable.

My Story

Sunday 31st Mar
The words you never thought would be said to you ‘You have cancer’.
At the age of 41 I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. It was a hard fight to be heard because ludicrously it is still perceived to be too young to have this disease. After many months back and too to my Doctors Surgery I ended up having to go privately as I knew something wasn’t right and couldn’t function raising my two girls and leading my life I needed to be heard! You know your body, always listen to your body! Before getting my results back I visited my GP again feeling very scared and I was told by him that I would be the unluckiest person to have bowel cancer at my age. Those words still haunt me now when I think about that conversation I had with him that day. However, I like to think I was very fortunate as once diagnosed they were able to remove the 2cm tumour and I’m alive. After major surgery I did not need chemotherapy as it had not spread to any other parts or to any of my lymph nodes. So yes I was unlucky to have cancer but I count my blessings and are forever filled with gratitude to those that listened within the Spire Healthcare and the NHS Bowel Cancer Team that helped me and are still helping me being under surveillance for the next 5 years.
My rock of a husband Ryan and my two beautiful girls, Grace and Elsie who are my heartbeat and whole world helped me through as well as my wonderful family and friends who were there holding me up when I needed it the most and for just being there holding my hand.
Mentally there is a long journey ahead but to be able to help and give back and to support whoever needs to be heard that is why I would like to raise as much as I can to help the research needed.
Thanks for all your support.

Firstly, Charlotte we are proud of you for keeping so strong throughout this terrible ordeal. The strength of your husband and daughters plus your family and friends has also helped you get through all of this, even though at times we know it's been, and still is, very hard for you. Secondly great praise and thanks must go to the fantastic surgeon and team for doing what they did and for the continuing support of specialists and nurses.
